US health authorities launch study on cell phone radiation
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced its intention to launch a new study on the health effects of cell phone radiation, a move that comes in the context of repeated criticism from Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has previously linked this radiation to neurological damage and cancer.
A ministry spokesperson said the study will examine the relationship between electromagnetic radiation and public health, with the aim of identifying knowledge gaps, particularly with regard to modern technologies and ensuring safety and effectiveness.
Spokesman Andrew Nixon added that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had removed old web pages that indicated that cell phones were not dangerous, explaining that this step came in conjunction with the department beginning to prepare the study.
Nixon explained that the study was commissioned by President Donald Trump ’s “Make America Healthy Again” committee , as part of its strategic report, referring to a broader government initiative aimed at promoting public health.
The U.S. Department of Health announced last year that 22 U.S. states had imposed restrictions on the use of cell phones in schools, as part of efforts to improve the physical and mental health of children.
Despite these steps, some official pages of government agencies, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, still maintain that “there is still no credible evidence” to suggest that cell phone radiation causes health problems.
The National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, also reported that “the evidence available to date indicates that cell phone use does not cause brain cancer or other cancers in humans.”
