Feeling tired during Ramadan… a normal phenomenon or a health warning sign?
Dr. Hala Abdel Karim, a family medicine consultant, confirmed in a special statement to Sky News Arabia that feeling exhausted in the middle of Ramadan is one of the most common symptoms at this stage, along with the accumulation of sleep disturbances and changes in eating habits.
Abdel Karim said that a decrease in energy during fasting hours may be expected as a result of the lack of calories and fluids, but persistent and severe fatigue or fatigue accompanied by frequent dizziness, palpitations or blurred vision may indicate a health problem that requires medical evaluation.
She explained that unnoticed dehydration is one of the most prominent causes of stress, especially with insufficient fluid replacement between Iftar and Suhoor , in addition to excessive consumption of sugars that raise blood sugar levels quickly and then cause a sudden drop. She added that staying up late and lack of deep sleep disrupt the biological clock, which negatively affects concentration and productivity.
She pointed out that some groups are more prone to fatigue, such as diabetics, anemia , thyroid disorders, and the elderly, stressing that the appearance of symptoms such as paleness, shortness of breath, or fainting requires a visit to the doctor and the necessary examinations.
She stressed that the solution lies in regulating meals, so that breakfast contains proteins and fiber that reduce blood sugar fluctuations, along with a balanced pre-dawn meal and drinking 8 to 10 cups of water daily.
She concluded by saying that fatigue in the middle of Ramadan can be contained through simple lifestyle adjustments, but ignoring the warning signs could lead to complications that can be avoided with early intervention.
