
Mexico: Measles outbreak tops 8,000 cases in three months in 2026
Mexican health authorities report eclipsing the 8,000 measles case mark within the first three months of 2026.
From January 1 to March 25, the Ministry of Health reports 8,021 confirmed cases and eight fatalities.
Since the outbreak began in early January 2025, 14,481 confirmed cases and 35 deaths have been reported.
In 2026, 58 percent of the total confirmed cases have been reported from Jalisco state (4668), followed by Chiapas (671) and Mexico City (624).
In the cumulative count of confirmed cases for 2025–2026, all 32 states have reported measles cases distributed across 451 municipalities.
The total measles cases in North America is more than 10,000 in the first months of the year (United States – 1582 and Canada- 582).
Regarding deaths, 35 cumulative cases have been confirmed for the 2025–2026 period, distributed across 10 states: Chihuahua (21), Jalisco (4), Sonora (1), Durango (2), Michoacán (1), Tlaxcala (1), Mexico City (2), Chiapas (1), Guerrero (1), and Sinaloa (1).
