Almonds: A “health treasure” that protects your brain
A recent scientific study, presented by researchers from the Zoe Institute and King’s College London, showed that people who eat almonds daily are less likely to develop brain diseases such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and multiple sclerosis.
Almonds are characterized by their content of monounsaturated fats, omega-6 fatty acids , fiber, vitamin E , and polyphenols, which are nutrients associated with improving blood vessel health and reducing the risk of heart disease, as well as their role in supporting brain function.
Almonds are also a rich source of fiber, which supports digestive health , helps regulate bowel movements, and reduces the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and colon cancer , at a time when most people do not meet the recommended daily intake of fiber.
As for fats, despite containing a high percentage of them, they are of the healthy type that is beneficial to the heart and blood vessels, according to the recommendations of nutrition experts, according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”.
Sarah Perry, senior scientist at the Zoe Institute and associate professor at King’s College London, says that vascular health is a key factor in preventing dementia, noting that damage to the brain’s microvessels is linked to multiple cognitive disorders.
The study results included more than 160,000 people in the United Kingdom and the United States.
According to the researchers, including almonds in the daily diet may contribute to boosting brain health in addition to their well-known benefits for general health.
